During the warmer summer months, it’s not uncommon to head out into the countryside of an evening, spend some time among the grass and wildlife as the sun goes down, and to generally enjoy the beautiful things that nature has gives us. It’s at these times that the wonderful Lightning Bug may appear, with its very own special ‘lantern’ illuminated to warn off pray, or to attract a mate.
Traditionally used in Asia for celebrations and festivals, many people release CHINESE LANTERNS to symbolise the release of their worries and problems.CHINESE LANTERNS from Wish Lantern are 99% biodegradable, non-flammable and safe and easy to use, and create an amazing visual effect that adds enjoyment and wonder to any special occasion.
All you have to do is light the fuel cell, wait for the lanterns to fill up with hot air and then let go. You and your guests will gaze as the Wish Lantern floats up to the sky. Using the power of fire, the CHINESE LANTERNS will be in the air for about 12 minutes and go up over a mile in the air.
CHINESE LANTERNS from Wish Lantern stand 108cm (42.5 inches) tall and 66cm (26 inches) wide at its widest point. After release and flight, the Wish Lantern will self-extinguish and float gently to the ground. New in stock this season are our range of Halloween lanterns, floating wish lanterns and Santa Lanterns.

Quilt making is a great hobby to have; it’s therapeutic, can be done anywhere at anytime, and helps you develop a very useful life skill. Those who are really enthusiastic about getting to grips with exciting and innovative patch designs often boast a whole host of wonderful pictures- animals, plants, maybe images of friends and family, all created with a needle and thread. As the idea of the quilt is to reflect something of the owner, why not, dear Chinese lanterns enthusiast, dedicate a section of your own textile creation to these delightful products? We’re imagining a lantern, or several, in any colour you so desire, maybe surrounded by beams or concentric circles of every fading light, as though the Chinese lanterns on the quilt were indeed glowing in the night sky. Oooh, sounds pretty. Or perhaps you’d prefer to sew a montage scene, with traditional Chinese lanterns hanging from strings between houses, maybe to decorate the street before the New Year.
For some, the fact that Chinese lanterns, once lit and released, float away never to be seen again, is something of an upsetting and distressing fact. For these people, the ambiance and beauty that is created with the light of the lanterns is something that they want to last for a long time; to them we say, never fear.
There’s new craze that’s about town, and we’ve got to admit, we’re jumping right on the bandwagon with this one. Being good to the environment is all the rage- we’re talking about recycling, using public transport or car shares to get from A to B, and maybe even saving up your banana skins and apple cores to make a nice bit of compost for the garden. We love to think we do our bit at home by involving ourselves in things like these, and now we’re doing the same in the office. Our new eco Chinese lanterns are perfect for those who want to have something special at their gathering or event, without worrying about the lasting effects of their display of lanterns. This lot are made using a light but durable bamboo frame and lovely rice paper to complete the picture. Not only this, but the fuel cell holder, usually made with wire, has been replaced fire-proof wool; all of the aforementioned will biodegrade in a very short time after your Chinese lanterns have burnt out.
If there’s one thing that we can be thankful to the great country of China for, it’s giving us Chinese lanterns, which we can use in numerous celebrations and special occasions, wowing guests with something really special. Of course, there is so much more China has given us, including Chinese astrology, and as a celebration of this, we thought we’d have a look at the signs of some of our team, to find out what they’re really like:
There’s nothing quite like planning your big day with your significant other, and thinking about the future, and what your lives together will entail. You may have even been to a few weddings yourself over the summer, and taken notes about what you do and don’t want to do on your own big day…as the winter approaches, however, and we’re thinking about heading to the mountains for a spot of skiing, some happy couples are doing the same, and taking their wedding parties with them to get hitched on the slopes. Exotic wedding locations are all the rage, and where better to declare your love for someone than the idyllic snowy tops of a resort somewhere in our big wide world. Whatever your wedding location or skiing preferences, don’t forget to pack the Chinese lanterns, which can help round off your ceremony in style. Not only will your guests and skiers adore seeing beautiful lights floating over the wilderness, but you’ll give your fellow holiday makers something to enjoy, too.
We know you love our Chinese lanterns as much as we do, which is why you help keep our blog alive and kicking by logging on to read the new instalment every week, and posting your lovely comments at the bottom. We also know that for some, bulletins about Chinese lanterns needs to come thick and fast, not just once a week, which is why we’ve set up our very own Facebook page, hosted by Wish lantern, where you catch the most recent news about our products-particularly the seasonal ones, such as pumpkin and Santa lanterns- as well as network with fellow fanatics. Let’s face it, these days the only place to be seen is social networking sites, and making your own profile attractive and cool is of utmost importance. Become a fan of the Chinese lanterns page, and our lovely, glowing logo will pop up every time you log on, making your page light up (hoho); much better than running a virtual farm (some of the other Facebook options), or playing scrabble online, we’re sure you’ll agree.
There’s nothing we like better than good old Chinese lanterns, and thinking up wild, wacky, fascinating and occasionally educational material for our much-celebrated and widely read blog, as seen on these very pages, dear fan. As you can probably imagine, extensive research every single week goes into what materialises, and we love finding out about how Chinese lanterns are being used all over the world, in various celebrations and times of remembrance. But can you imagine our shock/surprise when we discovered that the term ‘Chinese lanterns’ can also refer to an exotic fruit, native to several areas across the world, from Southern Europe and through Asia. The ‘Physalis alkekengi’ is identifiable by its white flowers, as well as the red/orange papery covering of the fruit, hence the reason it has adopted its more commonly used name; as for what you might use it for, the Winter Cherry (yet another term that can be used to describe this extraordinary plant) is often part of a decorative piece seen in the home, stunning against pale walls or in light spaces, particularly as the sun filters through the outer casing of the fruit. Chinese lanterns (this type, anyway), are edible, but must be enjoyed in moderation as side-effects can be serious.
There’s nothing quite like the thrill of setting out on a new business venture, getting all your ideas and creative thoughts together, channelling them into something wonderful that your new customers will enjoy. And then there’s the task of planning and executing the launch of your company, the success of which, and therefore the future, can depend on the little things that make your idea stand out the most. Whether you’re selling sofas or sushi, marketing or magic tricks, getting together with your new clients and releasing Chinese lanterns is a great idea, making wishes for a successful and prosperous future, which you can club together to make happen. It’s not only a completely unique and special way to round off any evening, but those around you will see how much time and care you take to make things, and your product, special and stand out from the crowd.
We love summer; the warm weather, the barbeques in the garden, and the chance to get a bit of a tan before we head off on holiday for a couple of weeks whilst the kids are off school- it’s family time, and time for relaxation, plenty of fun, and maybe some evening entertainment. One of things we like most about after-work hours is all the lively activity that takes place in theatres all over the country, particularly when the productions being staged involve Chinese lanterns as part of the décor, enhancing the feel of the show, and helping the audience feel like they’re really part of something magical. This is exactly what the talented crew at the Old Vic Theatre in London have done; the set for the brand new production of As You Like It, which opened on 1st June, includes Chinese lanterns hanging from the trees in the forest to which the Duke, and all his followers are banished at the very beginning of the play. It is only in the second half of the action that the audience do in fact get to experience the Chinese lanterns lit up on stage, when night falls in the forest, and the action begins to reach its climax, as they sit with their fingers crossed for a happy ending…
