Wish Lantern celebrates Australia Day

wish lantern Jan 25As the Wish Lantern team has had plenty to do with our friends ‘down under’ over the past few years we thought we’d help them celebrate their national holiday “Australia Day” which is on January 26. Australia Day commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788. The day is an official public holiday in all states and territories of the nation and is marked by an address of the Prime Minister and the Australian of the Year Awards.

To celebrate Australia Day, many Australians have a summer BBQ and listen as one of the nation’s favourite radio stations Triple J, counts down the Hottest 100 songs of the year. You’ll find most of the younger generation at their mates place by the pool, with an esky of beer and a plate of sausages listening to the Hottest 100 broadcast. Some of the older Australians like to stay at home and enjoy their day off by spending it with their family.

Seeing as its January and a little bit cold for a poolside BBQ the Wish Lantern team thought they would do their part to celebrate Australia Day by releasing some yellow and green wish lanterns. Those Aussies love their green and gold – we’ve seen them win a lot of medals in those colours at the Olympics so we thought we’d use those colours to celebrate their national day!
