With the ski season well and truly upon us it’s time to get your thinking caps on a plan your next ski trip before all the snow disappears. So, here at Chinese Wish Lanterns the team has sat down and decided on our top five North American Ski Resorts – rated on the terrain, the village and other important factors such as snow fall and off snow activites. You might like to try out one of these for your next ski adventure!
Whistler Blackcomb, Canada
You can’t top this massive winter playground, it’s got everything you’ll ever need in a ski holiday. Massive long runs, awesome terrain and great snow. The village is filled with great bars and restaurants too so you’ll never be bored or hungry! It’s also close to the city of Vancouver, well worth a looksee before you transfer up to the mountain.
Squaw Valley, California
Most famously known as the hosts of the 1960 Winter Olympics, this ski resort is old school but awesome fun. It boasts terrific weather with the Californian sun yet manages to pull in some sweet snow fall on the cold winter nights making most days at Squaw a blue bird powder day – the best kind! Not to mention the wild terrain that attracted professional skiers such as the late Shane McConkey. This resort also has a mountain of non skiing activities such as tubing, ice skating and sleigh rides so it’s great for when you want to take a day off from the slopes and give your legs a rest.
Copper Mountain, Colorado
A very young, hip resort, Copper has something for the entire family. Its terrain has numerous runs at varying levels of difficulty as well as beautiful champagne snow that you will only find in Colorado. Copper’s village is modern and fresh with lots of trendy bars, shops and restaurants. The ski school is also very highly regarded for children and adults.
Heavenly Valley, California
There’s no other resort in America where you can take a run that takes you from the Californian border across to the border of Nevada. That’s what makes Heavenly so special. One side of the mountain is in Lake Tahoe California and one side is in Nevada, you can literally stand there and look out at the view from the top of the chairlift and see California and Nevada side by side with all their differences in landscape. Truly gorgeous.
Jackson Hole, Wyoming
Not for the faint hearted, this resort is for hardcore double black diamond skiers and snowboarders! If you want a challenge, this is the resort to challenge yourself at. You won’t find the same amount of pretty, neat groomed trails here as you would at some of the other resorts– it’s naked, raw backcountry skiing at its best. It’s got a massive vertical and stacks of runs to keep you busy all day long.
