Chinese lanterns star at The Old Vic

We love summer; the warm weather, the barbeques in the garden, and the chance to get a bit of a tan before we head off on holiday for a couple of weeks whilst the kids are off school- it’s family time, and time for relaxation, plenty of fun, and maybe some evening entertainment. One of things we like most about after-work hours is all the lively activity that takes place in theatres all over the country, particularly when the productions being staged involve Chinese lanterns as part of the décor, enhancing the feel of the show, and helping the audience feel like they’re really part of something magical. This is exactly what the talented crew at the Old Vic Theatre in London have done; the set for the brand new production of As You Like It, which opened on 1st June, includes Chinese lanterns hanging from the trees in the forest to which the Duke, and all his followers are banished at the very beginning of the play. It is only in the second half of the action that the audience do in fact get to experience the Chinese lanterns lit up on stage, when night falls in the forest, and the action begins to reach its climax, as they sit with their fingers crossed for a happy ending…
If you’re heading to the theatre this summer, or indeed have already been and seen something lovely which incorporates Chinese lanterns, pleased do get in touch and let us know-we always love to hear from you!
